The Center for Health, Intervention, and Prevention (CHIP) seeks a full-time Computer Technical Support Consultant I (UCP 4).  Under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology, the consultant will provide hardware and software computer support to faculty, staff, and students of the Center for Health, Intervention, and Prevention (CHIP).

 

Duties and Responsibilities:  Provide technical/computer support, including systems analysis and diagnosis of CHIP hardware and software; manage and support the CHIP IT helpdesk; assist with CHIP research projects involving data collection, manipulation and analysis; review CHIP PI grant proposals with IT components, when funded perform IT related functions funded by external grants; coordinate the web posting and recording of CHIP's weekly Brown Bag lecture series; assist with quarterly IT workshops; advise on computer related equipment purchases/implementations; recommend policy, procedure, and standards for CHIP IT operations; and support CHIP IT primary initiatives and its related projects.  Applicant will be trained to provide periodic coverage for the IT Director in his absence.

 

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and training and one or more years of experience in desktop/infrastructure support including computer hardware, software, network storage, or data communications; aptitude for and willingness to develop teaching, communication, and writing skills; and demonstrated ability to work well with a diverse population in a fast-paced, demanding environment. Must be able to travel from the Storrs to the Hartford work location when necessary.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with the following:

  • Microsoft Windows Server & Desktop Operating Systems
  • Linux Operating Systems (Most popular distributions)
  • MAC OS X
  • VMware's Server Virtualization Platform; Server and Client Virtualization
  • Active Directory Roles, Groups and Permissions
  • Experience with Microsoft Server Technologies (Exchange, DNS, SQL, IIS, File Services, WSUS & MDT)
  • Fundamental understanding of TCP/IP Networking, VLAN separation and Firewalling Technologies
  • Experience with WordPress
  • MySQL Server
  • Symantec Ghost Solution Suite
  • Familiarity with popular software packages such as Office & Adobe Suite.  

 

This is a full-time permanent position.  Target salary is in the low to mid $40s and is commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and training.  Employment of the successful candidate will be contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check.
