Business Services Supervisor (UCP 5)

The Department of Natural Resources and the Environment (NRE) seeks applications for a Business Services Supervisor (UCP 5). Working under the direction of the Department Head, this position supervises business services and administrative functions for the Department and is responsible for carrying out financial activities, including fiscal oversight of all departmental and program budgets.



Duties and Responsibilities



Interact and regularly communicate with other University and external offices and agencies, both as directed by the Department Head and independently. Oversee and manage all department accounts, including Foundation accounts, and provide regular updates to faculty and administrators. Implement and monitor bookkeeping and fiscal procedures for the department. Prepare budget projections and regular statements and monitor all departmental budgets. Prepare financial and ad hoc reports as appropriate to meet federal, State, University and departmental requirements; keep abreast of changes in University and State regulations governing such matters. Working with the OVPR and assist in the management of post-award budgets and accounts. Delegate and review work assignments; supervise and evaluate performance of administrative staff. Oversee and manage the administrative processes, systems and workflow involved with hiring faculty, staff and student workers including student payroll, graduate payroll and special payroll authorizations (offer letters, payroll authorizations, timecards). Collect, compile, organize documents, data and reports and manage the submission process of the Annual Reports of faculty accomplishments. Coordinate departmental Annual Reviews, Merit Reviews, and the Promotion, Tenure and Reappointment (PTR) process for tenure and tenure-track faculty. Act as administrative assistant to Department Head; maintain Department Head's calendar and scheduling and assist in routine correspondence. Monitor faculty and staff compliance with all University policies including ethics training, IRB, IACUC, EHS etc. Process visa applications for faculty/staff (H1, J1). Coordinate special projects (e.g., NEASC, departmental accreditation/review). Perform other administrative duties which includes providing support of all departmental duties and responsibilities relevant to the NRE central office.



Minimum Qualifications



Associates degree or equivalent training and experience. A minimum of two (2) to five (5) years bookkeeping/accounting experience. Excellent communication skills. Good organizational and interpersonal skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and experience with Excel and financial records systems.



Preferred Qualifications



Bachelor's degree in accounting, business or related field with three (3) to five (5) years of experience in managing budgets and personnel. Knowledge of fiscal control methods. Knowledge of university and state compliance requirements. Proficiency with PeopleSoft and experience with Kuali Financial System (KFS).



Appointment Terms



This is a full-time, 12-month position with an anticipated start date of October 2016. The successful candidate's primary workstation will be at the Storrs campus. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
