ESL/ABE Instructor

The Women and Families Center is seeking an ESL/ABE Instructor to teach English language learners the fundamentals of reading, writing, listening and speaking English; and, teaching adult basic literacy and mathematics to adult education students enrolled din occupational skills training.

Start date: October 16, 2017   This is a part time (generally 18 hours per week) position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Education

  • Teaching Certificate in TESOL, Adult Education or related discipline.

  • At least 3-5 years of teaching experience

  • Experience working with diverse populations

  • Bilingual a plus

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team

  • Experience with Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) is a plus

Duties and Responsibilities

This position requires typical work operations and responsibilities such as but not limited to:

  • Teach English language learners to read, write and speak the English language that lead to economic self-sufficiency and community engagement (ESL/Family Literacy classes)
  • Teach English literacy and implement interactive family literacy activities to promote participants’ engagement in their children’s education (ESL/Family Literacy classes)
  • Manage the work of the literacy volunteer tutors in the class setting
  • Teach adult basic education instruction (literacy & math) in the context of occupational skills training requirements (Integrated Education &Training classes)
  • Plan lessons and coordinate instruction in collaboration with the occupational skills instructor (Integrated Education &Training classes)
  • Co-teach with  occupational skills instructor in the same setting
  • Implement the College & Career Readiness Standards in ABE and ESL instruction
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with program guidelines and best practices
