Chemical Operator

Position Overview:
As a chemical operator at Nalas, the Chemical Operator will be part of a team responsible for the manufacture of chemical products in support of various Defense and Pharmaceutical customers. Upon scale-up and demonstration of a safe and robust process, the chemical process (s) will be directly transitioned from a team of qualified chemical engineers and scientists . Accordingly, the Chemical Operator will have the opportunity to work directly with a team of experienced engineers.

Qualifications:
An associate’s degree in chemical technology, or equivalent, is desired but not required. It is expected that the chemical operator will receive on-the-job training. The Chemical Operator must be willing to work extended and flexible hours as needed to support various project requirements. An interest in science and technology is also highly recommended along with a willingness to adapt to using new technologies, trouble-shoot, and problem-solve. Proficiency with word-processing including MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook is required. Finally, the Chemical Operator must be self-motivated and results-oriented and demonstrate good interpersonal, communication, organizational, teamwork and time management skills.

Primary responsibilities:
- Monitor the equipment specific to production process; conduct dry runs and water runs to test the equipment for malfunctions and/or that the equipment is operating as intended
- Ensure proper functioning of process controls, interlocks, and other instrumentation; check meter, gauge and instrument readings, and make adjustments where necessary
- Schedule and coordinate maintenance efforts, as necessary
- Close down and clean the process related equipment, and carry out minor maintenance work
- Shut down processing and other handling equipment during an emergency
- Accurately and sufficiently record process data and other information germane to the specific operation
- Conduct procedural operations including measuring, weighing, mixing and loading of raw materials
- Take product samples and record the test data for quality purposes
- Pack and load products items into carboys or other containers ready for shipment to customer
- Ensure chemicals are stored properly
- Purchase equipment and chemicals as needed
- Confer with technical and supervisory personnel to report or resolve conditions affecting safety, efficiency, and product quality

- HAZARDOUS DUTY: Incumbent is regularly exposed to the hazard of chemical and explosive ingredients. The danger inherent in this type of work cannot be completely eliminated by established SOP's and/or safety equipment
