Laboratory Technician

Job Summary:  Fraunhofer USA’s Center for Energy Innovation is currently hiring a Laboratory Technician for 1st shift  work at our research and development facility in Storrs, CT. This position will require hands on laboratory and manufacturing/assembly support to the Engineering / R&D functions for the purpose of development of laboratory and bench scale research demonstrations.  The incumbent shall be working in the areas of:

  • Batteries and Energy Storage
  • Microgrid Engineering
  • Environmental Technologies
  • Fuel Cells and Electrolyzers

This is a hands-on role looking for an individual who can contribute based on their previous experience in a laboratory environment and who has a diverse skillset both mechanically and electrically, and can document and run tests as required by the program. Previous hands-on work experience, including plumbing, working with bottled gases and fittings, experience with glove boxes, heaters, high temperature furnaces, water filtration, and membrane technology is a plus. 

Duties will include:

  • Preparation and running laboratory experiments,
  • Evaluation of lab experiments to include set-up of electro-mechanical systems as required by the project
  • Maintenance of the laboratories and equipment,
  • Ensure laboratories are adhering the EH&S standards and have a safe working environment, 
  • Documenting new laboratory procedures for testing and data collection
  • Assisting research scientists in their research as required.

Minimum Qualifications:  Prior experience working in a team environment with senior scientists, graduate students and research staff members is highly desired. The ability to work safely, solve problems independently and provide support in the laboratory preferred. Familiarity with electro-mechanical test setups and laboratory testing equipment is desired.  Ability to follow written instructions and verbal direction is required.  Competency in writing and communicating laboratory procedures and results; good computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and strong attention to detail is required.

Appointment Terms:  This is a full-time, 12 month position.
