JOB TITLE:  Staff Accountant, Connecticut

SUPERVISOR: Controller

OVERVIEW: The purpose of this position is to serve as the Staff Accountant for (PAI) and other companies that services are provided for. The list below is a high level list. Responsibilities are subject to change and special projects may be assigned.

Communication with internal staff of all levels, carrier contacts and vendors is frequent.

General Responsibilities:

  • Generate and record daily subsidy reimbursement payments as directed.
  • Reconcile all subsidy payments to the general ledger and bank activity on a daily basis.
  • Create monthly invoices for all MBM and IBM payment transactions.
  • Reconcile monthly MBM and IBM transactions to general ledger.
  • Reconcile all other cash accounts contained in the general ledger to the appropriate bank statements on a monthly basis.
  • Reconcile all general ledger asset and liability accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Provide a detailed accounting, on a monthly basis, to the administrator of the subsidy as outlined in contract.
  • General ledger management including recording of all transactions such as issuance of checks/ACHs and recording of invoices.
  • Process accounts payable transitions for (PAI) in accordance with Company policy.
  • Issue accounts payable checks timely to vendors on behalf of the pools.
  • Global Transfer of funds as directed by Controller.
  • Billing, collection and posting of appropriate out of pocket expenses, in accordance with the administrative services contract.
  • Assist with financial statements preparation on a monthly basis for presentation to account management and the board of directors for various small reinsurance pools.
  • Assist Senior Accountant, with the analysis of information required, in the preparation of reports to the board of directors or the administrator.
  • Record administrative fees for services render for all (PAI) service deliveries.
  • Work with Controller, Senior Accountant and account management on special projects and identifying potential issues.
  • Compile and deliver year end audit package to independent auditors, with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Work with auditors during the audit. Provide information to Controller as needed in the preparation of monthly and annual administrators reports.
  • Assist Senior Accountant with tax return preparation, including amended returns.
  • Unclaimed property administration in compliance with the applicable state.
  • Special projects, as identified.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.)  
  • 3+ to 5 years of general accounting or finance experience.
  • Working knowledge of health insurance industry, government affairs and subsidy administration.
  • Proficiency with all MS Office applications (Microsoft Great Plains, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Team player with a selfless attitude.
