Web Developer

The Record-Journal Publishing Company, the leading local multimedia company in Central Connecticut as well as Southern Rhode Island and Southeastern Connecticut is growing and looking for a talented back-end web developer to join our team. 

A family-owned company, we publish the Record-Journal and 6 community weeklies & websites in Central Connecticut, along with The Westerly Sun and 4 weeklies in Southern Rhode Island and Southeastern Connecticut.  Our products deliver the hyper-local news that citizens want, as well as the audience that businesses need. Plus, we have partnered with the biggest names in digital and social media to offer our advertisers unmatched reach and targeting capabilities – from the very local to the national scale.

We are looking for an experienced, full-time web developer to join our digital team. S/he will be responsible for developing and maintaining systems that support the digital delivery of news and advertising.

• Develop and maintain back-end of company news websites, with a strong focus on UI/UX and mobile development
• Manage advertising and content vendor integration into digital products, including DoubleClick for Publishers, remnant ad programs, audience targeting methodology, Second Street, and Legacy, among others.
• Manage social media integration based on content and advertising initiatives
• Manage site analytics and reporting
• Develop digital solutions that allow for efficient internal processes which support content and advertising creation and distribution, as well as revenue growth.
• Be the company’s digital technical lead, working collaboratively with all departments and fostering the internal digital culture by facilitating the implementation of digital goals.

 

Experience/Skills:

• Experience with web application development processes, from UI/UX to relational database structures.
• Experience with mobile specific solutions as well as responsive design
• A solid understanding of web applications functionality including security, session management, and best development practices
• Solid understanding of social media creation, integration, creation and UX from both a technical and marketing perspective
• Hands-on experience with network diagnostics, network analytics and reporting tools
• Advanced knowledge of Search Engine Optimization process
• Demonstrated attention to detail
• Aggressive problem diagnosis and creative problem solving skills
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• 2+ years minimum web programming experience, including PHP, ASP or JSP
• 2+ years working with relational database systems and a good working knowledge of SQL
• 2+ years web design experience, including UI/UX development
