Computer Programmer Analyst 1 or 2

The University of Connecticut, University Information Technology Services (UITS) is seeking an experienced Application Programming Specialist. The ideal candidate must have considerable technical expertise and programming skills as well as highly developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Experience with Java programming and XML and Web services technologies is preferred.

JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of a designated team leader, this position applies considerable expertise and knowledge of computer programming techniques to independently analyze, design, develop and maintain effective computer applications programs which facilitate and expedite the processing of complex academic and administrative data for the Learning Management System (HuskyCT).

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: 1. Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and a minimum of one year of technical experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 2. Experience with Oracle database concepts and SQL programming. 3. Experience developing Shell scripts in Linux/Unix servers. 4. Knowledge of Perl or Python or similar programming languages. 5. Experience developing written documentation and operating instructions. 6. Excellent written and communication skills and interpersonal skills. 7. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team environment. 8. The ability to work with a diverse user community.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: 1. Experience with Java programming. 2. Experience with XML and Web Services technologies. 3. Experience with administration of enterprise application system. 4. Demonstrated ability to manage large or complex projects to achieve timely, successful completion.
