MANAGEROF SPECIALSERVICESThe Norwalk Transit District, located in Norwalk, Connecticut, is accepting applications for the position of Manager of Special Services. The person in this position will be responsible for managing the delivery of directly operated and contracted paratransit services for persons with disabilities & seniors throughout southwestern Connecticut with a peak pull out of 40 vehicles. This will include planning and development of the services; coordinating and overseeing contracts; and, the supervision of the certification process, scheduling and dispatching, and customer relations. The person selected will work with and supervise both union and non-union employees, as well as contractor employees. The Manager of Special Services will work cooperatively with the fixed- route Operations Department in the oversight of all commuter shuttle services. The person in this position must be a leader with a collaborative, problem solving style.This position requires knowledge of paratransit related issues and pertinent local, state and federal rules, regulations, and laws regarding paratransit services, including the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). It also requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as computer literacy. The Manager of Special Services also serves as the liaison with numerous advocacy groups.The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Services or a related field, and have five years of progressive experience in a supervisory capacity or equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public or private transit, preferably with experience in paratransit operations.Highly competitive compensation package.
