Assistant Store Manager

JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of store operations designed to improve the productivity and profitability of the store under the supervision of the Store Manager. As an Assistant Store Manager, the incumbent serves as a role model for retail management and execution by delivering a consistently exceptional customer experience. The Assistant Store Manager displays strong management skills and is a developer of people. The Assistant Store Manager reports directly to the Store Manager and to the District Manager.

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Store Management /Team Development/Customer Service
Deliver the Hallmark brand promise through enthusiastic People, exceptional Customer Service and outstanding store Standards. Successfully manage all aspects of the customer experience and store operations including driving sales, recruiting and hiring, staff development, payroll management, inventory management, loss prevention and store profitability. Demonstrate exemplary planning, organization and communication skills to ensure successful store operation.

Operations
Achieve performance objectives for store in sales, customer service, payroll, markdowns and shrinkage. Drive sales, I.A.T. goals, and Crown Rewards transactions. Discuss store operations, profit and loss statement, store appearance and merchandising with the Store Manager on a regular basis. Manage all store records, such as accounting procedures, banking, receiving, invoicing and time records. Monitor system-matics, and maintain appropriate storage facilities and records for those facilities. Merchandise products according to store guidelines and direction from the Buyer and Assistant Buyer. Maintain appearance of the store and organization standards in the stockroom. Demonstrate all aspects of loss prevention.

Employee Training
Deliver training to employees that will enable them to perform in a productive and profitable Hallmark Gold Crown store. This will require a thorough knowledge of Hallmark Gold Crown products, services, systems and store operations. This will require proficiency in one-on-one training skills, knowledge of adult learning principles and a thorough understanding of the skills needed to lead and deliver world-class retailing. Monitor that training is being delivered according to guidelines and ensure that training expectations are being met by conducting follow up.

Other Responsibilities
Work closely with the Store Manager and District Manager to review new policies, operational changes and/or training initiatives. Coordinate new technology implementation and training as directed by the Store Manager. Identify and develop targeted training/communication for specific operational needs. Execute marketing events. Position requires physical duties involving lifting up to 40 pounds.


MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
Two-year Associate s or four-year Bachelor s business-related degree preferred. Experience in assignments with increasing management responsibility. Experiences that demonstrate strong leadership, organizational and planning skills along with strong management, interpersonal, problem solving, written and verbal skills are required. Familiarity with technology required; computer based training expertise is desirable.

COMPETENCIES
The Assistant Store Manager serves as a role model for best practice retail management and performs a functional leadership role. Incumbent is to demonstrate proficiency in Assistant Store Manager competencies, the Assistant Store Manager must also have a thorough understanding of Hallmark products, systems and store operations, knowledge of adult learning theory. The Assistant Store Manager will need to measure results and apply learnings to future development of employees.
