Gilead Community Services, Inc.

Our Mission

The staff of Gilead Community Services, Inc., working together with clients, family members, and other community providers, is committed to assisting individuals who have experienced a significant disruption in their lives due to psychiatric illness or psychiatric illness compounded with substance abuse disorders. We provide high quality healthcare treatment and recovery support services so that people may develop meaningful relationships and increase their ability to live independent and rewarding lives.

Our History

Gilead was founded as a research project by two graduate students from Wesleyan University who were volunteering at Connecticut Valley Hospital in the late 1960's. At that time, they noted the increasing number of individuals who kept returning to the hospital because they were faced with overwhelming odds once they returned to the community - no finances, no living situation, no employment, no social support systems. Quite often, this would lead to rehospitalization and the cycle would begin again. It was the wish to stop the cycle and to help individuals in need, which formed the foundation for Gilead. At the conclusion of the research project, community leaders, professionals, businesses, educators, and interested individuals were approached with the need to carry on the work of this project.

Providing "equal employment opportunity" is one of the most important personnel policies of Gilead. Our goal is to try to provide equal employment opportunity to applicants and employees in all phases of our operation.

One of Gilead's goals is to comply with all relevant federal, state and local laws with respect to equal employment opportunity for employees and applicants in all aspects of employment, including the terms or conditions of employment, recruitment, hiring practices, benefits, discipline and termination. If you feel that you may have been discriminated against, please contact your supervisor, manager or the Director of Human Resources. It is Gilead's policy not to retaliate against employees because they make claims of discrimination or participate in an investigation of claims of discrimination.
